Carolina moved to Nova Scotia in 2023. She is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Innovative Numerix, a software developing and consulting company. Innovative Numerix specializes in modelling and simulation of complex multi-physics engineering and scientific problems, optimization and data analytics. Carolina has over 25 years of industrial and academic experience. She holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, a M.Sc. in Computing Sciences and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta. Carolina is a member of APEGA and Engineers Nova Scotia. In Nova Scotia, Carolina wants to continue developing software solutions that help small producers with innovative, scalable, and sustainable applications to optimize processes while reducing environmental impacts. She aspires to help transform businesses from assembly lines to smart factories. She also hopes to give back to the community by teaching and mentoring future engineers.

Born and raised in Halifax, Jocelyne Dumaresq CPA, CA, obtained her Bachelor of Commerce degree at Dalhousie University and her CA designation in 2003. She joined Bishop & Company in 2011 and works closely with the senior financial teams at companies and not-for-profit organizations to complete their annual audits with efficiency and minimal disruption. She has extensive experience completing Estate and Trust returns, as well as personal, corporate, not-for-profit and charitable information returns. She enjoys her volunteer work with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) and L’Arche Homefires in Wolfville.

Kelly Grant has recently moved to Kentville from Halifax, having worked for 14 years as the landscape designer for Bloom Greenhouse and Garden Centre in Hammonds Plains. She and her husband have embraced their move to the Valley and are thrilled to be welcomed into this beautiful, vibrant community. Fernleaf Landscape Design has been established for Kelly to continue her love of helping people have beautiful, unique landscapes that they are excited to call their own. Sarah is a Registered Counselling Therapist and Certified Canadian Counsellor. She has over 20 years of experience in this field and has been in private practice since 2017. With degrees in education, counselling, public administration and management she has worked in a variety of fields such as education, nonprofit, health, and more recently as an entrepreneur.

I am a retired serial entrepreneur! I do have 2 small, less-than-part-time businesses: Marketing and Sales Consulting and Home-made Granola (Called Wonderful Grand Granola). I moved to Wolfville in 2023 after 40 years living elsewhere and finally returned to retire in the Valley. I live with my dog, Marley.

Emily is a climate change adaptation specialist, with a particular interest in environmental justice, education, and business. This passion led to the creation of One Star Hiking, a guided hiking business that combines a love of nature and fitness to help people reconnect with the natural world. Emily also owns resiliFIT Coaching, where she offers personal training and group fitness classes. She hopes to encourage women to find their personal joy in movement, so we can remain active no matter their age or ability!

Katrin Sommerfeld returned to Acadia’s Office of Industry & Community Engagement (ICE) as the Manager, Industry & Community Partnerships in Spring 2020. Originally from Germany, Katrin came to Nova Scotia in 1998 with a Master’s in Chemistry and brings with her over 20 years of experience in project and program development and management, laboratory research and management, financial management, and communications. At ICE she is responsible for connecting Acadia’s expertise with industry, government, and community groups, identifying and supporting project development, research funding applications, considerations for intellectual property protection, and agreements drafting and execution.

Hi, my name is Melissa Thatcher. I own and operate Scrubbed Green Cleaning out of Kentville. My team and I service anywhere in Kings and West Hants Counties. We are fully insured, trustworthy, friendly and thorough. I have always had a love for the environment, as well as concern for how we were treating it, going back to learning about global warming in elementary school. So when I started this business a couple of years ago, I wanted to do it as sustainably as possible. My equipment and techniques have evolved in that time, and I have now gotten to a place that I can be fairly proud of. We dispose of very few items, we refill and wash most things, and we use mild and even some unscented products. If you are like me and wish to lessen your (cleaning) impact on the environment and your own health (as most cleaning chemicals are toxic to humans), give me a call!

Hailing originally from Ontario, Stacey and her family have chosen Nova Scotia as the best place to raise their family, and are happy to call it home now. Stacey and her husband, Rick, have four teenage children, Ella, Max, Zoe & Lexie, and let's not forget the newest, smallest, and definitely loudest member, Monty the Blue Heeler pup. First a graphic designer and then a preschool teacher and owner of Happy Little Gnome Preschool, Stacey changed things all up when her family moved to the East Coast. She took a chance on a real estate career and ended up falling in love! On top of Stacey's love for her pup and kids, she also loves to crochet (hats especially), watch movies, and her biggest love ... the ocean. She could sit and watch it for hours. No wonder she moved to Nova Scotia. Stacey covers the entire Annapolis Valley (and sometimes further!).
