“Feel a little less panic and a little more boss!”

“The thought of networking can be scarier than a grizzly bear coming out of hibernation, and you are the only meal in sight,” says Emily Pilon, President of VWBN.As Founder and CEO of Hiring Strategies, Emily knows a thing or two about networking.

Join us for our non-scary networking event on September 11. You’ll have a chance to put some networking tips into practice in a safe, supportive and fun environment. To help you feel a little less panic and a little more boss, here are VWBN’s three favourite networking tips.

Tip 1: Prepare. Be able to say what you do in two concise sentences. Then think about why you are networking and have a quick way to communicate that as well. Finally, be sure to pack your business cards.

Tip 2: Bring a positive mindset. Take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that everyone else in the room is only human – and that you are a pretty cool human that they might like to meet. Bring your curiosity too, because if you’re curious about what someone does, they’ll probably be happy to talk to you about it.

Tip 3: Maximize your time. Listen as much as you talk, and ask questions. If you’re comfortable networking, invite the hesitant person into your conversation. Introduce them to other people. And if you’re nervous, find a confident networker and ease into their circle with a question. Move around the room but don’t block pathways – and never cut off access to the refreshment table!

Join us on September 11, have fun, and get to know a cool crew of women in business. No grizzly bears will be attending.
